# Exclaimer: No recipient email address is being captured
**Issue**
You are using a survey in your Exclaimer signature and have the recipient variable present in the recipient email custom field within the Thermometer.
However, when a rating is received the recipient's email is not being captured.
But the sender of the email's name and email are being captured.
We capture identifiable data by using Exclaimer's variables within the survey code to pull the data across to display in Customer Thermometer. Exclaimer's variables could be failing for a few reasons outlined below.
**Resolution**
The Exclaimer recipient variables will only work if you are deploying your signature server side or client side with 'Apply Recipient Settings Client-Side' feature enabled within Exclaimer.
Please note you must be an Admin in Exclaimer to see this option.
The Exclaimer recipient variables do not work when sending signatures via Gmail client side. In addition to this, the recipient variables do not work when using the Cloud Update Agent.
