Once logged in to Customer Thermometer head to Thermometers > Add new Thermometer > Helpdesk > Select Links
This will then open up your Thermometer Builder where you can create your survey and thank you pages.
The Question
This section of the builder is where you can choose the design of your survey including naming your Thermometer, adding your question and selecting your survey icons or uploading your own bespoke icons. The below video will demo all the customization which can be achieved in this section.
Connect your survey
In order for identifiable data about your recipients and senders to display within your reporting area, you first need to capture it. This would be done at the point that the email is sent, by including merge fields/variables from Jira within the Thermometer code.
The most common Jira variables are shown below for you, however, you can add more if you wish.
For ease, some variables are available below to copy:
Email: NOT AVAILABLE CURRENTLY First name: ${issue.reporter.name} Custom 1 (Issue ID): ${issue.key} Custom 2 (Technician's name): ${event.user.name}
These variables will capture the corresponding pieces of identifiable data from Jira and present them alongside the recipient's feedback rating within your reporting.
I’m afraid you cannot identify the recipient's email addresses automatically as their variables do not allow us to. But you are able to prompt respondents for their email addresses on your Thank you pages. You will find this feature in the Connect your survey section of the builder.
Email addresses will be added to the survey response if a respondent provides that information. If they don’t, you will still receive an anonymous response and any comment left.
Please also ensure you are on the latest version of Jira, some variables will not work on older versions.
Response options
In your Connect your survey area, you have additional response options. Here you can choose whether to enable a lockout and set your email alert notifications.
Thank you page
It’s time to get those Thank you pages looking beautiful!
See below for a step by step walkthrough:
Embedding your survey into Atlassian Jira
Once you've finished designing your Thermometer, the 'Give me my Thermometer' section will provide you with your finished survey to embed into Jira. You'll see your URL image links and response links as shown below.
There are two options to add the survey into Jira – add to the “Public comment added” or “Request resolved” notification. Both rules can be found inside Project settings > Customer notifications:
It’s not possible to copy and paste an HTML snippet into Jira customer notifications. Follow the alternative method below:
You will need to construct a few lines of markup within the notification template which look like this:
[!GOLD_IMAGE_URL!|GOLD_TRACKINGLINK] [!GREEN_IMAGE_URL!|GREEN_TRACKINGLINK] [!YELLOW_IMAGE_URL!|YELLOW_TRACKINGLINK] [!RED_IMAGE_URL!|RED_TRACKINGLINK]
Go back to the Customer Thermometer – and you’ll be able to find the 8 links to add into the markup, 4 icon URLs and 4 corresponding response links:
This has generated the icons and links within the notification template.
Below, you can see half the icons and links populated within the markup, for clarity. The other 4 URLs now need to be substituted for it to be complete.
This will now allow you to track 1-click feedback, identifiable to that customer, technician and request ID.
